Belize observes Energy WeekNovember 7th, 2011
CARICOM Energy Week, a project to raise awareness on how to use energy effectively was officially launched this morning at the Best Western Biltmore Plaza Hotel. The opening address was done by the Director of Administration and Tariffs, Leroy Almendarez. Strategic Planning and Policy advisor in the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment Paul Flowers told us more about Energy Week and how we as Belizeans can use energy effectively.
Flowers also spoke of the initiatives they are taking to involve the younger generation to become participants of energy week.
The ceremony was followed by the Keynote Address by the CEO in the Ministry of Public Utilities, John Mencias.
Mencias then presented the prize for the theme and poster competition for Energy week. The winners were students of Our Lady of Guadalupe School in Belmopan. They won with a colorful poster depicting uses of energy and the theme “Build on the technology for a better tomorrow”. Energy week closes off on Friday with a field trip to BELCOGEN with the award winning group of the Banner and Theme Competition.
The Government of Belize, via the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment (MNRE) is proud to announce its participation in the first annual Caricom Energy week activities to be held during November 06th – 12th, 2011. The Caricom Energy Week has been conceptualized as an annual event to be staged simultaneously across all fifteen (15) Caricom states.
The objective of the week activities is to raise awareness on the importance of energy to the economic development of the country, renewable energy and energy efficiency to sustainability of energy supplies.
